Mr. James says he may ditch No. 23 in deference to Hall of Famer Michael Jordan and take No. 6, his number in the Olympics. Sales of the No. 6 jersey could bump Mr. James’s position on the league jersey-sales list, where he’s currently No. 2 (behind Kobe Bryant). An NBA spokesman says retirement of No. 23 would be up to individual teams; so it may fall to Mr. James to persuade the other 12 players who bear that number to switch on their own.
